Je viens de lire les details de la mort de Steve Irwin (le cocodrile hunter australien qui est mort a cause de l'attaque d'une raye). L'attaque a ete soudain.. il nageait en haut, parallellement au ray ... le ray s'est senti menace par lui et le camera (ils etaient dans des eaux peu profondes ) et voila que le ray a pique ... directement dans le coeur. Irwin etait au mauvais endroit car si le ray avait pique n'importe ou allieurs dans son corps, Irwin serait encore vivant... mais elle a pique directement dans le coeur...

MILWAUKEE — It began with a crush, police said, and turned into one of the most shocking crimes in Milwaukee's long, violent summer: an 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by as many as 20 boys while a 16-year-old girl she was romantically interested in watched and coached her.

The 16-year-old and a 15-year-old boy have been charged in juvenile court in the alleged attack, which authorities said took place Monday in a house on the city's north side. The teenage girl's 40-year-old uncle might also be charged, authorities said.

The youth's names were not released because of their ages.

Investigators are still attempting to identify and locate the boys who were in the house.

"We're dealing with a lot of nicknames, so we're trying to track down these people," said prosecutor Matthew Torbenson.

The 11-year-old girl told police she was interested in the teenage girl, who looked and dressed like a boy, authorities said in court records. She and two friends went to the teen's house, where the child performed oral sex on three teenage boys, the court records said.

The teenage girl's 40-year-old uncle admitted he also had sex with the 11-year-old and told police that his niece was coaching the child, the records said.

The 11-year-old told police she then went to the basement, where there were about 15 males and "began to choose who she wanted to perform oral sex on," the records said.

The teenage girl told police that the 11-year-old had told her she wanted to perform oral sex on the boys in the house, according to court records. The 16-year-old denied encouraging her.

The teenage girl and the 15-year-old boy were charged with being a party to sexual assault. Torbenson said he will probably seek to have them tried as adults.

The reported attack punctuated Milwaukee's felonious summer, which started with a Memorial Day weekend in which 28 people were shot. Though homicide numbers are lower than 2005, assaults are up by 22 percent and robberies by 36 percent, Police Chief Nan Hegerty told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Several mob attacks have taken place in Milwaukee's inner city in recent years. In 2002, more than a dozen people, mostly boys, chased a man through the streets and beat him to death with shovel handles, rakes and tree limbs.

A mentally ill man died after being beaten and robbed by a group in 2004. Four days after that attack, a 14-year-old boy was kicked, punched and hit on the head with a piece of lumber after he exchanged words with a girl. He was in a coma for two weeks. Also that summer, four brothers were beaten by a group armed with bats, bottles, sticks and socks stuffed with canned food.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett described the latest alleged crimes as disgusting and deeply troubling.

"When you have people working in concert and no one in the group is showing conscience, that's a real problem," he said.

"It almost leaves me speechless," said Barbara Nuell-Moore, director of the neighborhood-improvement group Project Respect. "It is just senseless acts of violence. It is inhumane. It is embarrassing to the city of Milwaukee and its people. ... There should be outrage."

U.N.: World's top killer is suicide

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Suicide kills more people each year than war and homicide combined, the United Nations says.

However, suicide prevention programs have proven remarkably successful, Jose Manoel Bertolote, of the U.N. World Health Organization, and Brian Mishara, of the International Association for Suicide Prevention, told reporters Friday in New York.

Telephone hotlines, reduced access to lethal substances and reduced physical access to infamous suicide locations, such as the Golden Gate Bridge in California, have proven effective at preventing suicide and encouraging those suffering from mental illness to seek help.

Making suicide a crime, as Singapore and India have done, is effective only in keeping those who need mental health treatment from being helped.

The low cost of alcohol, such as the low cost of vodka in Russia, also tends to increase suicide trends.

"To be effective suicide prevention needs to incorporate a multi-faceted and intersectoral approach, which acknowledges the multiple causes and pathways to suicide behavior," the International Association for Suicide Prevention said.

Still, the problem has decidedly not been brought under control. Suicide kills more than 1 million people every year and, increasingly, it is claiming the lives of young people and women. In addition, for every one death by suicide, there are 20 to 50 unsuccessful attempts.

Dentists, doctors and veterinarians are a particularly vulnerable group, due to easy access to lethal substances and an understanding of how the body reacts to those substances.

Efforts to protect the general public from lethal substances, such as requiring that fewer tablets of over-the-counter pain medication are available in each bottle, have succeeded in making suicide more difficult to accomplish.

Giant catfish scares tourists

A giant catfish is frightening tourists at a Centerparcs holiday park in Holland.

The 2.3 metre European catfish eats two or three ducks a day and has even taken a few small dogs, reports Hetlaatste News.

Dutch divers reckon 'Big Mama', in the lake of a Centerparcs at Kempervennen, could be the world's biggest.

Remco Visser, head of a Dutch diving school which uses the lake for practice dives, said the fish had scared a number of divers.

But he added: "They don't have to worry because catfish don't eat humans. Most of the ducks have moved to another lake but visiting ducks, who don't know there is a catfish in the water, get caught."

Centerparcs guards patrol the lake to keep away fishermen who have been trying to climb over the fences at night to catch Big Mama.

Biologist Jean Henkes, of Centerparcs, added: "The catfish has grown so big because of the excellent water quality, enough food and rest."

'Dead' woman shocks family

A Brazilian woman shocked her family by turning up alive and well a week after her own funeral.

Relatives of 18-year-old Maria Fabiana Franco thought she was a ghost and wouldn't let her in the house.

Miss Franco, from Vitoria, had been missing for two weeks when her sister wrongly identified the body of a young woman as being her.

Adriana Lacerda, the sister, said: "The dead woman was identical to my sister. They even had the same scar on the same eyebrow!"

The body was buried in the family grave and the family were still mourning a week later when Miss Franco turned up.

A police spokesperson told Terra Noticias Populares: "The family was so happy but really scared at the same time.

"They didn't let her in until we arrived, they thought they were seeing a ghost."

Miss Franco told police she had run away with her boyfriend but had to return home after he was arrested.

CHICAGO -- A Chicago 5-year-old named Diamond Brownbridge fell into a coma after being sedated at a dentist's office this weekend, and allegedly suffered a heart attack.

Television station WMAQ reported said that Diamond's family has been told that the girl is brain dead and her vital organs are severely damaged. Doctors told the family that they must decide when to take Brownridge off of life support.

The dentist who treated the girl spoke exclusively with the Chicago Sun Times on Tuesday.

Dr. Hicham Riba told the paper that he feels like he's being treated like a criminal even though, he said, "I am a very responsible person. I never intended to harm anybody."

In the published report, Riba said, "I don't think I will ever go back to a normal life after an experience like this."

The family of Brownbridge, who remained unresponsive at Children's Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, said they are not going to take her off life support.

"It's a wait-and-see type of game," said her mother, Omettress Travis. "They haven't offered us any hope, but we have that in ourselves -- we're a prayin' family."

The dentist has been in contact with family twice to see how Diamond is doing.

Family described the 5-year-old as a charter school student who is full of life, receiving A's and a few B's, and as a little girl who loves church.

"I told her 'Time to come home. Wake up. Daddy needs you at home,'" said her father, Paris. "She's got to come home. Her daddy loves her (and) misses her. She's my world."

As the family waited at Children's for any sign of improvement, they encountered more and more unanswered questions.

The child's mother, who is a medical assistant at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said that she doesn't understand why she immediately noticed that her daughter was in distress and the dentist in charge of the procedure did not.

"I just want to know, what did they give my baby to make her just lose her life?" Travis asked.

Diamond went to Little Angel Dental, a storefront office, to have two cavities filled and her front, bottom teeth capped.

According to Travis, the dentist gave her a yellow liquid to drink, then nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. (Note: Previous versions of this story incorrectly referred to nitric oxide.) On top of that, Travis said, the dentists gave the 35-pound girl an IV sedation.

Travis said she was asked to leave the room while the dental work was done. When she returned, her daughter had no pulse and wasn't breathing.

"They did not monitor my daughter when she was having the work done," said the mother. "They also asked me to leave out of the room ... I didn't know why because I was going to sit there, but they said, 'You have to get out of the room.' ... At least if they weren't going to monitor her, I could have watched her."

WMAQ reported Monday that the office had no heart monitor or blood pressure cuff, instruments that are required by Illinois law when sedation is involved.

Last April, Diamond was sedated without incident at Children's Memorial when she had a broken arm. Family members said they don't know what went wrong on Saturday and they want the health department to shut down Little Angel Dental.

"He doesn't need a license," the girl's aunt, Danetta Dupree, said.

Dentist Defends His Practice

WMAQ learned from the Department of Professional Regulation that the dentist is licensed, with a special certification for sedation. The department indicated that it appeared the doctor has the correct certification for the work that was performed on Diamond.

Riba spoke with the station late in the day Monday at his home. He would not go on camera but said his thoughts and prayers were with Diamond and her family. Riba gave the station a written statement defending his practice.

"I have treated thousands of children since 1997 and many of my patients require intravenous sedation," Riba wrote. "I am board certified in pediatric dentistry, licensed for intravenous sedation and have always been in good standing with all licensing bodies."

Riba said that all sedated patients are monitored throughout their procedures, but he could not talk about any specific case because of privacy laws.

"We are cooperating with investigators and at this time. My office has canceled all intravenous sedation procedures," he added.

The director of pediatric dentistry at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Dr. Indru Punwani, said it was rare to use three sedations on a young child, but if a child undergoes deep sedation, there must be a finger monitor to measure oxygen, pulse rate and blood pressure.

"We monitor these very, very carefully," Punwani said. "The monitoring devices are such that even if the oxygen saturation goes a few points, we are monitoring it, and we have a stethoscope on the chest, so we are listening the chest."

This is the first complaint registered against Riba, according to the state's regulatory agency.

Little Angel Dental did not open for business Monday. Patient after patient showed up, only to find the doors closed and security gates locked.

Nathaniel Williams took his 3-year-old son to the office for a Monday appointment, and said he only learned the office was closed when he showed up.

"No one called," he said.

Williams said he was supposed to have his son, Nate, sedated for dental work.

"Now I'm having doubts. I've got to go and talk with my wife about the whole thing here," he said.

Williams said his 5-year-old daughter, Natalie, was put under sedation at Little Angel last month, and everything went well. But like other parents who learned of what happened to Diamond, Williams said that he was worried for his child's safety.

Diamond remained in critical condition on the second-floor intensive care unit on Monday afternoon.

"I believe that's a miracle baby. I'm hoping that God sees fit to bring her back to us, and she's going to be well," said the father Monday.

The dental office was open Sunday until 3 p.m., but no one returned a reporter's phone call.

WMAQ has not been told if there was a dental anesthesiologist or if there was an anesthesiologist nurse in the room.

The Chicago Health Department learned of the incident Sunday and is investigating.

Compulsive buying is not just a problem that some women have - it seems that men are just as likely to suffer from it, say researchers from Stanford University, USA. About 5% of adults in the USA say they cannot refrain from shopping for stuff they probably don't want or need.

The traditional view of women suffering from compulsive buying is probably the result of most studies being done mainly on women. Women are also more likely to admit to compulsive shopping than men.

Surprisingly, more people from lower incomes suffer from compulsive shopping than people from higher incomes.

Compulsive shoppers enjoy the buzz of shopping and browsing for the things - they experience a ‘high' from it. This is followed by distress and remorse when the person realizes that money was spent on things that would never be used.

In this study, 2,500 adults were surveyed by telephone. The researchers determined each person's level of compulsive buying by using a screening device called ‘The Compulsive Buying Scale'.

The researchers found that:

-- 5.8% of people are Compulsive buyers

-- 6% of women are Compulsive buyers

-- 5.5% of men are Compulsive buyers

-- A higher percentage of younger people are Compulsive buyers than older people

-- A higher percentage of people who earn less than

-- $50,000 per year are compulsive buyers

-- Male compulsive buyers tend to buy CDs, books, tools, gadgets, computer stuff and cameras.

-- Female compulsive buyers tend to buy clothes, make-up, articles for the home and jewelry.

-- Male compulsive shoppers are more likely to become addicted to auctions than female compulsive shoppers

-- Compulsive buying does not make the sufferer feel any happier

-- Many sufferers experience serious debt, remorse and shame

Botanists discovered a partially digested mouse inside the plant on Friday after several people complained of a horrible smell.

The carnivorous plant, native to the Philippines, is the first to actually prove that plants can indeed eat small mammals.

Previously, insects were the only things that were known to be in a carnivorous plant's diet.

RIO DE JANEIRO - An international online love affair didn’t lead to the altar but instead ended in a brutal murder in Brazil.

Police said this week after a six-month investigation that an American man who came to Brazil to visit the fiancee he had romanced on the internet was killed by the woman over money, according to media reports.

Musician Raymond James Mierrel was drugged and held by Regina Filomena Rachid for a week in March in an apartment in Sao Jose dos Campos in Sao Paulo state, police said. After Mierrel gave her the PIN numbers to his credit cards, Rachid strangled him with a cable and, with the help of two accomplices, burned his body in a car on an abandoned piece of land in Sao Jose, police charged.

Authorities initially buried Mierrel’s body believing him to be an unidentifiable homeless person.

Mierrel’s parents, however, reported him missing in April from California, and the Brazilian police and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation began investigating his disappearance together.

It ended up being solved by chance when Rachid was arrested in June at a shopping centre in San Jose in an attempted robbery. A police search of Rachid turned up a credit card bearing Mierrel’s name.

One accomplice was then arrested, and another surrendered to authorities. Police said all three confessed to their involvement in the murder.

By then, Rachid had withdrawn about 50,000 dollars from Mierrel’s accounts, police said.

The musician had travelled to Brazil for a third time in March to spend his birthday with his fiancee.

Police said, however, that by the time of his arrival, Rachid and her accomplices had their eyes on his money and had been planning his murder for weeks. Now they face 30 years in prison if convicted of kidnapping and murder charges.

In the meantime, the body of the unknown homeless person was exhumed, and initial DNA tests determined that the body was almost certainly that of Mierrel.
