Selon M. Tiney, "les guides spirituels de la communauté maya" ont estimé qu'il serait nécessaire de nettoyer le site sacré des "mauvais esprits" après la visite du chef de la Maison Blanche pour que les ancêtres puissent reposer en paix.

Les rites de purification, qui implique des chants et de brûler de l'encens, des herbes et des bougies, prépareront également le site pour le troisième sommet des Indiens d'Amérique latine prévu du 26 au 30 mars.

Deja en France on a eu plein d'abeilles mortes mais ici c'est par la pure connerie humaine: a cause d'un insecticide qu'il faut interdire... 'Fish Man' completes Amazon River swim

A Slovenian man has become the first person to swim the entire length of South America's Amazon River.

Martin Strel, 52, completed the 5,265-kilometre swim from Peru to Brazil in 66 days.

After more than two months withstanding the best the Amazon could throw at him, the man they call 'Fish Man' defied doctor's orders by completing his latest marathon swim today.

He arrived in the northern Brazilian city of Belem suffering from dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea and sunstroke.

He averaged nearly 85 kilometres each day and was sometimes in such pain he had to be helped from the water.

The Amazon is home to animals including piranhas, crocodiles and anacondas but Mr Strel says they had "just accepted him".

He already holds world records for swimming the Danube, Yangtze and Mississippi Rivers and Guinness World Records is expected to verify his latest feat within weeks.

Man Describes Alleged Attack By 7 Lesbians In N.J.
Claims '06 Incident Was Hate Crime Against Straight Man


(CBS/AP) NEW YORK A man who was beaten and stabbed after a street fight with seven avowed lesbians testified Wednesday that he thought he was going to die after they jumped him last year.

"I remember being surrounded, my hands up in my face," Dwayne Buckle testified at the trial of four of the women. "I went up into a defensive position. I felt a nick in my abdomen. I had my two hands in front of my face."

He said he didn't realize he had been stabbed.

"Somebody told me I was stabbed," he said. "As soon as he said that, I felt it. I lay down on my knapsack. I was hollering and screaming. I felt like I was going to die."

Buckle, 29, said he was in a hospital for five days and in bed at his Queens home for a month after undergoing surgery for a lacerated liver and stomach. He said he also suffered cuts, bruises, scratches and an eye injury in the attack.

Buckle, who has called the incident "a hate crime against a straight man," was testifying in Manhattan's state Supreme Court at the trial of Patreese Johnson, 20, Renata Hill, 25, Venice Brown, 19, and Terrain Dandridge, 20, all of Newark, N.J.

The defendants are charged with first- and second-degree assault and gang assault. Johnson, accused of stabbing Buckle, also is charged with second-degree attempted murder. All have pleaded not guilty.

Three of the seven women pleaded guilty to assault charges in exchange for sentences of six months in jail and five years probation.

Buckle, a movie audio-video engineer and an independent filmmaker, said the fight started outside the Independent Film Center in lower Manhattan, where he was trying to sell videos he had made. He said that as the women walked by, he spoke to one of them because he found her attractive.

Buckle said a heavyset woman in the group said something rude.

"She just started dogging me out, being loud and disrespectful," he said. "I think I called her an elephant and told her I wasn't talking to her."

Buckle said she spoke disparagingly of his looks and clothing, saying he was wearing cheap sneakers. Meanwhile, another woman spat on him and he spat back.

The women surrounded and attacked Buckle, he said. After a few minutes, he said, the fight subsided and he began picking up his DVDs from the sidewalk.

"Someone attacked me from behind," Buckle said. "One girl called for some guys to come beat me up. A guy got me on the floor (sidewalk), and I was jumped again."

Assistant District Attorney Sharon Laveson told the jury in opening statements that surveillance video will show that Johnson pulled a steak knife from her purse and stabbed Buckle with it.

Johnson admits she slashed Buckle with a knife but says she did it in self-defense, according to papers filed by prosecutors at her arraignment. Johnson's statement says she pulled out her knife after Buckle grabbed her arm and spat on one of her friends.

"As I got my knife, Renata hit him for spitting," Johnson's statement says. "Then everyone jumped in because he is a man. Then some young men had helped us. After that we walked away. I admit I did cut him one time for my own safety."

Fumer sauve la vie

Mme Comer est persuadée que sa pause cigarette l'a sauvée. Elle a dit avoir aussitôt lancé à son mari: "Chéri, je sais que tu me grondes de fumer. Mais aujourd'hui cela m'a sauvé la vie". AP

Il n’y a pas si longtemps, des recherches montraient que la fumée issue du cannabis était encore plus cancérigène que celle du tabac. Or, ces jours-ci, une nouvelle recherche (menée par l’équipe de Ramesh Ganju (sic ! ça ne s’invente pas !) au Harvard Cancer Center de Boston, USA) montre que, sous forme injectée, le THC, principe actif du cannabis, ralentit considérablement le développement du cancer du poumon et ses métastases chez des souris.

Alors, qui croire ? La différence réside entre les goudrons produits par la cannabis fumé, mélangé à du tabac, et l’injection de THC pur.

Ce qui devrait booster un peu les ventes des gadgets récents qui permettent d’inhaler du cannabis sans combustion, donc sans goudrons. Cela dit, ces engins, assez onéreux pour le moment, ne sont pas près de dégommer le bon vieux pétard, surtout dans les fumettes festives et collectives. Alors, fumer ou choper un cancer, à chacun de choisir…

Top medical journal blasts "designer vagina" craze

One of the world's most prestigious health journals has lashed a fast-growing trend in the United States and Britain for "designer vaginas," the tabloid term for cosmetic surgery to the female genitalia.

The fashion is being driven by commercial and media pressures that exploit women's insecurities and is fraught with unknowns, including a risk to sexual arousal, the British Medical Journal (BMJ) says.

Known as elective genitoplasty, the surgery usually entails shortening or changing the shape of the outer lips, or labia, but may also include reduction in the hood of skin covering the clitoris or shortening the vagina itself.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the practice is spreading fast in the United States as well as in Britain, but the picture is unclear, the BMJ says.

Not only is there a disturbing lack of data about the phenomenon, there has been negligible assessment about surgical after-effects -- and almost zero reflexion as to whether a labial "problem" exists in the first place, the BMJ says angrily.

In 2004-5, 800 "labial reductions" were conducted by Britain's state-run National Health Service (NHS), more than a doubling of the figure of six years earlier. Other operations were carried out by the private sector, although the full figures are unknown.

The authors of the article, London gynaecologist Sarah Creighton and clinical psychologist Lih Mei Liao, conducted their own small-scale probe into why women sought this surgery.

"Our patients sometimes cited restrictions on lifestyle as reasons for their decision," they say.

"These restrictions included inability to wear tight clothing, go to the beach, take communal showers or ride a bicycle comfortably, or avoidance of some sexual practices.

"Men, however, do not usually want the size of their genitals reduced for such reasons. Furthermore, they find alternative solutions for any discomfort arising from rubbing or chaffing of the genitals."

Patients who sought genitoplasty "uniformly" wanted their vulvas to be flat and with no protrusion, similar to the prepubescent look of girls in Western fashion ads, they found.

"Not unlike presenting for a haircut at a salon, women often brought along images to illustrate the desired appearance," say Creighton and Liao. "The illustrations, usually from advertisements or pornography, are always selective and possibly digitally altered."

Plastic surgery to the labia carries risks, for this zone carries nerve fibres that are highly sensitive and are a key pathway of sexual arousal, the article warns sternly.

"Incision to any part of the genitalia could compromise sensitivity," it says.

The BMJ piece suggests genitoplasty is a classic example of where commercial, media and social pressures artificially create a problem, fuel concern over it and then put forward a solution for it.

"There is nothing unusual about protrusion of the labia," it says.

"It is the negative meaning that makes it into a problem -- meanings that can give rise to physical, emotional and behavioural reactions, such as discomfort, self-disgust, perhaps avoidance of some activities and a desire for a surgical fix."
