Healt Alert: Milk Danger
LAST UPDATE: 12/6/2004 6:08:06 PM

Before you sit down to have a glass of milk or a salad for dinner, you might want to listen to what the FDA is discovering about those foods.

The food and drug administration sampled lettuce, bottled water and milk across the nation and found significant levels of a chemical called Perchlorate, it is the primary ingredient of rocket fuel and explosives.

The Utah department of agriculture is taking on a new challenge, to be one of the first state agencies to test milk for a potentially harmful chemical. The decision comes after the FDA released new findings that show more than 90 percent of the milk and lettuce that they sampled across the nation had significant levels of Perchlorate, a chemical used in rocket fuel and explosives.

None of the FDA's samples of lettuce, milk, or water came from Utah. In fact, most of the contamination is thought to have come from the Colorado River region, known to be contaminated with Perchlorates. Utah irrigation systems seem to be clean.

Nationally speaking, Perchlorates do seem to be a bit of a problem. The EPA says one part per billion in water is probably okay, but they don’t have a limit set for milk or lettuce, and those samples ranged from 11.3 parts per billion to a whopping 129 parts per billion.

The Utah department of agriculture is now testing the milk. We'll have the results as soon as they're available.

Immigrants To US Assimilating American Obesity
By Amanda Gardner
HealthDay Reporter
12-15-4

TUESDAY (HealthDayNews) -- The longer immigrants live in the United States, the more likely they are to take on what has become an increasingly common American characteristic: obesity.

A new study has found that immigrants who have lived in this country for at least 15 years are nearly as obese as their U.S.-born counterparts. The weight gain seemed to start after people had been living in the United States for 10 years.

"It's amazing how quickly people are changing," said Dr. Mita Sanghavi Goel, lead author of a report on the trend that appears in the Dec. 15 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

"Within 15 years, they are more likely to look like someone who is U.S.-born than a recent immigrant," said Goel, an instructor in medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago "It's another alarm bell."

Immigrants currently comprise more than 11 percent of the U.S. population, larger than many minority groups. In all, more than 127 million American adults are overweight, and almost 70 million are obese or severely obese.

One previous study had found that staying longer in the United States was associated with obesity. This study, however, tried to pin down when the weight gain happened and how much it was.

Goel and her colleagues analyzed data provided by 32,374 people for the 2000 National Health Interview Survey. Fourteen percent of the respondents were immigrants. The prevalence of obesity was 16 percent among immigrants, and 22 percent among U.S.-born individuals.

Only 8 percent of immigrants who had lived in the United States for less than one year were obese, vs. 19 percent of those who had been living in the United States for at least 15 years. This association was seen for all immigrant subgroups except foreign-born blacks.

For a typical 5-foot-4-inch immigrant woman, there was a nine-pound weight gain, and for a typical 5-foot-9-inch immigrant man, the increase was 11 pounds.

This weight gain was over and above any gain due to other factors such as age, income level, and race or ethnicity.

Although the study was not designed to understand precisely why this was happening, Goel had a theory. "Imagine you're a recent immigrant coming to the U.S.," she said. "You might live in an urban center where there are other immigrants similar to you, shop at local grocery store, prepare traditional foods. You may not have a car and so you walk around more."

Then imagine that your job changes or you have children and move outside of that original neighborhood. Now you might start picking up more American habits, buying candy at the checkout lane, and driving more than walking.

"Immigrants become Americanized rather quickly," added Maritza Marchante-Henry, a nutritionist with New York City's Visiting Nurse Service who originally hails from Cuba. "They want to be Americanized. They are confronted with a large variety of different foods, including a lot of the fast food sources which are very high in fat and high in sodium and some are also high in sugar."

To complicate matters, the study found that immigrants were less likely than U.S.-born individuals to report discussing diet and exercise with health-care providers (18 percent vs. 24 percent).

This failing may also provide an opportunity, especially with recent immigrants. "Immigrants generally tend to be healthier when they first come to the U.S.," Goel said. "That changes over time. This is the ideal population to talk with about maintaining healthy behaviors."

But health-care providers are only a small part of the puzzle, Goel added. Additional changes also have to take place in society.

"The larger policy implications are our access to healthy foods and how we as a society can figure out how to carry foods that are actually healthy. Are they too expensive for people to buy? Or is it harder to find fruits and vegetables?" she said. "Is it too easy to get in a car and drive someplace? Maybe we need to create an environment that fosters walking around."

'Diet' Soft Drinks - Suicide On An Installment Plan
Crumpled Coke Can Poetic Justice

12-14-4

The photo of a crumpled can of Diet Coke told the story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, 30-1-2000, Coke's hometown paper. Fitting, poetic, just, but tragic for the company once rated "The Most Admired Business in the World". Today Coke wouldn't even make the list. Sales are down, profits collapsing, and 6,000 employees soon will be gone. (To make room for 6,000 defence attorneys?) The tragedy is stupendously larger than 6,000 jobs; it affects hundreds of millions of unwarned, innocent, afflicted consumers across the broad face of planet earth.

* This crisis can't be solved by belt tightening, greater efficiency, more advertising, etc. It's so bad Coke can't say the word; to pronounce it will bring instant cataclysm. That word is aspartame, and their only recourse is denial, denial, denial, though every ad and commercial builds higher the scaffold upon which Coke shall surely hang.

* Reality is in that twisted Diet coke can. It's poison. It's killing the unborn, raining tumours and seizures on the population, destroying children, incapacitating workers, mimicking MS, erasing memory and blinding.

* Inexorably Diet Coke visits a plague of 92 symptoms listed by our FDA on a secret report they'll never show which names diet soda as the first source of aspartame disease. And yes, Death was one of the 92.

* Diet Coke is poison. And it's addictive, some victims drink several litres a day and keep it on their nightstands. If Coke changes the formula to remove aspartame the world will heal and the surge of hatred and vengeance by the disabled and bereaved shall certainly destroy Coca Cola.

* The poison in Diet Coke is aspartame. As a member of the National Soft Drink Association, Coke opposed FDA approval of aspartame for beverages. Their objections, running to several pages published in the Congressional Record of 5/7/85, said aspartame is uniquely and inherently unstable and breaks down in the can. It decomposes into formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, formic acid, diketopiperazine and other toxins. In a study on 7 monkeys 5 had grand mal seizures and one died, a casualty rate of 86%.

* Coke knew; and knowing, broke their good faith contract with customers, a breach exhibited by the recent plot to program vending machines to raise the price with the temperature. Dissatisfied with selling flavoured sugar water plus phosphoric acid, they switched to pushing an addictive formula called "Diet". Addictive substances multiply markets, so Diet Coke soared off the sales charts, spreading obesity in its flight. We're fatter because aspartame suppresses seratonin and makes us crave carbohydrates. Our brain is programmed to expect calories and carbohydrates when experiencing a sweet taste. When it doesn't get them, it triggers HUNGER.

* So why is aspartame/NutraSweet/Equal/Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi/etc on the market and in thousands of foods? Can you say CORRUPTION? One FDA Commissioner and one acting Commissioner have changed sides to work in the NutraSweet industry, plus 6 underlings and two federal attorneys assigned to prosecute NutraSweet for submitting fraudulent tests to get it approved. "It's like a script for Abbott & Costello." lamented an honest FDA scientist writing to Senator Metzenbaum. It works like this: "Approve our poison, and when you stop being a bureaucrat we'll make you a plutocrat! After its icensed we'll pay off the American Dietetics, the American Diabetes Association, the AMA and anyone we need who's for sale."

* The jig's up! Worldwide consumer action has exposed aspartame, and millions have kicked the habit. Coke's profits are down 37% and for a year Monsanto's been trying to sell The NutraSweet Company. Finally they sold NSC, producer of the phenylalanine in NutraSweet for $125 million. Now Monsanto faces a $71 million lawsuit for exaggerating profits. Monsanto stock is in the toilet, but they may have found a buyer in the Swiss firm Pharmacia-Upjohn. P.U. for short! The deal won't finalize for a year. The plans are to ditch the Monsanto name, as its stench is unendurable. CEO Bob Shapiro may soon be history, like Doug Ivester of Coke who just resigned.

Will the last one out please turn out the lights! The next time you reach for a diet drink (or some Sweet & Low), please consider some fruit juice. You will be much healthier.

Have a great diet-soda-free day.

Stock is in the toilet....

... tu vois?)

American diet R3873930622

An overweight Brazilian woman and her friend walk into the surf on Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro, December 16, 2004. It may be known as the land of slender super models, champion soccer players and itsy-bitsy bikinis, but Brazil is increasingly fattening up like the United States. A government study released on Thursday said 40 percent of Brazilian adults, or about 40 million people, are considered overweight and another 11.1 percent are obese. The culprit appears to be the South American country's sweet tooth, a lack of exercise and the gradual replacement of staples like rice and beans for processed foods, like cookies and soft-drinks, the report said. W a t e r
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

C o k e
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. :s207:
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days. :s207:
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous China.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. Check it out.

For Your Info :1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. :s207: Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials. 3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!
